Skills

  • Leadership.  I have created and lead groups from different backgrounds in order to construct or build communities.  Among the ones I have led: in 2018 I am creating the “Exponential Asia”, a group of leaders from different Asian countries (Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, India, China and others), where I am leading this organization and the first main projects (SingularityU Asia Summit and a cryptocurrency, among others); I have presented in Mexico before leaders in business; I have organized development projects in Congo; since 2015, at OIST, I started a group of Latinos (Spanish-speaking) in a frequent gathering and activities; since 2014, in Tokyo, I have led a meeting group of people to talk about exponential technologies; since 2016, I have started the first SingularityU Chapter in Japan; in 2011, in USA, I also led a group of Latinos to start a NSHMBA chapter in Louisville; I co-started a Journal Club in Louisville, USA; I have helped organizing different groups and congresses; my first leadership was when I was in Junior High School when I co-lead an after-school for children who could not attend elementary school, in 1992.
  • Innovation.  I have created a new type of haptics that is based on flowing fluid bursts; I have helped in brainstorming, drafting, directing and/or developing over 40 technological solutions, and many of them have been core technologies of startups in Silicon Valley and around the world.  Besides creating new systems of detecting emotional states (including pain), I am using AI methods to also build a platform that will enable future cryptocurrencies so new paradigms of economic system will be created, by giving importance to the impact that products and services actually have on people, instead of basing prices just in material, energy and skills needed to produce those products or services.  This will be increasingly relevant with growing demonetization and decommoditization trends.
  • Exponential Technology Advisor.  I have helped more than 50 projects that converted into startups, as an internal advisor in Singularity University main program, GSP, especially in areas of AI and Robotics.  My help varied from ideation to actual prototyping and market validation, involving even patent creation and coding.
  • Exponential Organizations.  I am capable of transforming big corporations into new-exponential-technology-oriented companies that can survive the next 10 to 20 years.  I have also been consulting/ advised many startups to become ExO from the start.
  • Adaptive Systems.  I have investigated about Brain Computer Interfaces and ways to get better performance of correct classification of the waves used from the EEGs.
  • Data Mining & Machine Learning/ Artificial Intelligence.  I have not just used different clustering and machine learning techniques but also as part of my PhD dissertation I created a new method for knowledge extraction from databases.  I have presented with IBM Watson creator, Robert High, and developed a Watson instance.  I have coached several projects using deep learning, and have taught machine learning and deep learning on many different occasions.  I proposed new artificial neural network architecture to Google Brain section, and generated interest.  I have developed techniques for extracted knowledge leveraging machine learning and A.I. techniques.
  • Neuroscience. My first postdoc took place in a Hospital Graduate School, in the department of neuroscience.  I not only learnt many new concepts, but also proposed ways of visualization and finding molecular interactions related with the brain.  I also participated in the Allen Institute for the Brain Sciences course at OIST.  Furthermore, I collaborated with the Chair of Neuroscience Department in Louisville on novel research.
  • Scientific Research.  I have not just followed the rigorous scientific method in different fields, but also I have evaluated methodologies of software development and I have even created a methodology for outstanding innovation (tested in Keio University in 2016)
  • Academic R&D.  I have carried out many academic activities like poster presentations, publications in peer reviewed journals, and served as a reviewer in journals, a judge in competitions, an organizer in academic meetings, and co-led a Journal Club in Louisville, USA.
  • Bioinformatics.  I have not just used intensively different databases, software and packages, but I have also contributed in developing new methods of analysis and also helped to correct analyses of genomes, and helped in building databases.  I have worked with a diverse range of organisms from microbes to mammals.
  • IP generation (USA and Japan).  I have brainstormed, drafted, and written (just USA) patent applications.  Patent application US 61/315,968 will be granted in the coming months (expected: already accepted by Patent Officer).  I have also helped writing patents for an Israeli startup (which was sold to a big company) and for other startups in Silicon Valley and around the world.
  • System development and testing. Besides helping with development I was in charge of a team to test a large e-commerce system developed for Wells Fargo (USA).
  • Teaching.  I have been told many times that my teaching is one of my strengths.  Since I was a teenager, I have taught children, teenagers, college students, graduate students, professors, and even elderly people.  I have taught in different disciplines.  My most recent very successful experience was teaching to Keio University SDM, where I not only taught concepts, but I was told that I could contribute with outstanding projects producing a new mindset in the students.
  • UNIX administration.  In different occasions, I have been an admin for linux and unix servers and network systems.  I have had to administrate not only wiki and emails servers, but also admin servers for load balancing java applications, web services, repositories, and even security-related tasks.
